## Biography

S. Sylvan Simon was an American film director and producer. Born in Chicago, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Michigan and attended Columbia Law School before entering the film industry.

He began his career at Warner Bros. in 1935 directing screen tests, later moving to Universal and MGM, where he directed comedies including *Whistling in the Dark* (1941), *Bad Bascomb* (1946) and *Lust for Gold* (1949). As a producer he is credited on *Born Yesterday* (1950), which received five Academy Award nominations. Simon died of a heart attack in Hollywood, California, in 1951 at the age of 41.
