Sally Benson was an American screenwriter and author. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she moved with her family to New York and was educated at the Horace Mann School. She began her career writing for newspapers before publishing numerous short stories in The New Yorker from the late 1920s onwards.

Benson is known for her semi-autobiographical stories collected in *Meet Me in St. Louis* (1942) and *Junior Miss* (1941). Her screenwriting credits include the co-written screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's *Shadow of a Doubt* (1943), as well as *Anna and the King of Siam* (1946), *No Man of Her Own* (1950), *Summer Magic* (1963) and *Viva Las Vegas* (1964). She died in 1972.
