## Biography

Sam Esmail is an American director, producer and screenwriter. He was born on 17 September 1977 in Hoboken, New Jersey.

He wrote and directed the feature film *Comet* (2014) and created, wrote and directed the television series *Mr. Robot* (2015–2019). He directed the first season of *Homecoming* (2018) and wrote and directed *Leave the World Behind* (2023). He has also produced series including *Briarpatch* (2020), *Gaslit* (2022), *Angelyne* (2022) and *The Resort* (2022).

Esmail is married to actress Emmy Rossum.
