Sam Hamm is an American screenwriter and comic book writer. He was born on 19 November 1955 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Hamm wrote the screenplay and story for the 1989 film *Batman* and received a story credit on *Batman Returns* (1992). His other film credits include the screenplay for *Never Cry Wolf* (1983) and the screenplay for *Monkeybone* (2001). He also wrote episodes for the television series *Masters of Horror* (2005–2006).

Following his work on the Batman films, DC Comics invited Hamm to write the 1988 story arc *Batman: Blind Justice* for *Detective Comics*, which introduced the character Henri Ducard. In 2021 he wrote the limited comic series *Batman '89*, a continuation of the 1989 film universe, followed by *Batman '89: Echoes*.
