Sam Locke was an American writer and director who worked in theatre, television and film. Born on 17 January 1917 in Peabody, Massachusetts, he grew up in New York City and studied at the City College of New York. He began his career writing for radio programmes including *Grand Central Station* and *Inner Sanctum Mysteries*, and contributed books for several Broadway musical revues in the 1930s and 1940s.

His sole Broadway play, *Fair Game* (1957), ran for seven months. From the late 1950s he wrote extensively for television, contributing episodes to series including *Gilligan's Island* (1964–1967), *The Lucy Show* (1966), *Green Acres* (1967), *The Brady Bunch* (1970–1974) and *All in the Family* (1972–1973). He also wrote screenplays for films such as *The Girls on the Beach* (1965) and *Beach Ball* (1965). His final television credit was an episode of *DuckTales* in 1989. Locke died on 18 September 1998 in San Diego, California.
