## Biography

Sam Ross was a novelist and television scriptwriter. Born in Kiev in the Russian Empire (now Ukraine), he moved to Chicago as a child, attended Northwestern University and served in the Merchant Marine during the Second World War before becoming a full-time writer.

His first novel, *He Ran All the Way* (1947), was adapted into a 1951 film starring John Garfield and Shelley Winters. Ross wrote episodes for numerous television series, including three for *The Fugitive* (1966–1967), as well as *Mannix*, *Ben Casey*, *Rawhide* and *The Six Million Dollar Man*. He also taught writing at UCLA and other institutions.
