He was born on 7 October 1967 in Paris and began his career in 1988. He trained in drama and appeared on stage before gaining recognition for his lead role in the 1996 comedy *Malik le maudit*, for which he received the Michel Simon Prize and the Best Actor award at the Amiens International Film Festival. Guesmi is known for his television roles as a drug dealer in *Spiral* (2008) and as Thomas Mézache in the series *The Returned* (2012–15).
