## Biography

Sandro Franchina (1939–1998) was an Italian actor, director and screenwriter. As a child he appeared as Michele Girard in Roberto Rossellini's *Europa '51* (1952).

He later worked as an assistant director to Marco Bellocchio and Jean Rouch. Franchina directed the feature *Morire gratis* (1968) and numerous documentaries, including portraits of artists such as Gino Severini. He was the son of sculptor Nino Franchina and nephew of painter Gino Severini.
