## Biography

Sawako Agawa is a Japanese author, essayist, television personality and actress. Born on 1 November 1953 in Tokyo, she is the daughter of novelist Hiroyuki Agawa and a graduate of Keio University, where she studied Western Historiography.

Agawa began her career in Japanese television as a reporter and news reader before becoming an interviewer and appearing in talk shows and quiz programmes. She has acted in a number of films and television series, including a voice role as Eriko in the animated feature *The Boy and the Heron* (2023). Several of her novels have been adapted for film or television, among them *Soup Opera* (2010).

In 2014 she received the Kikuchi Kan Prize. She won the Tokyo Drama Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2018 for her performance in *Rikuoh*.
