## Biography

Sean Caffrey (15 April 1940 – 25 April 2013) was an actor from Northern Ireland. Born in Belfast, he attended Queen's University there and began his professional career in the mid-1960s with a leading role in the BBC television drama *Boy in the Smoke* (1965). He gained early recognition for film parts in *I Was Happy Here* (1966), *Run with the Wind* (1966), *The Viking Queen* (1967) and *When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth* (1970), in which he played Kane.

Caffrey appeared in numerous British television series including *No Hiding Place*, *Coronation Street*, *Z-Cars*, *Doctor Who* (as Lord Palmerdale in the 1977 serial *Horror of Fang Rock*), *The Professionals*, *Minder*, *Bergerac*, *Harry's Game* (1982) and *Edge of Darkness* (1985). He also worked as a playwright and stage designer, co-founding the North Face Theatre Company with his life partner Phil Thompson, and performed at venues including the Lyric Theatre in Belfast and the Bristol Old Vic.
