Born on 21 December 1959 in Grumo Appula, Apulia, he moved to Rome to study acting and made his feature film debut in 1985. He appeared in Federico Fellini’s *Intervista* (1987) and made his directorial debut with *La stazione* (1990), which won a David di Donatello and a Nastro d’Argento for best debut work. Rubini has acted in numerous Italian films and some international productions. His credits include *A Pure Formality* (1994), *Nirvana* (1997), *The Talented Mr. Ripley* (1999) as Inspector Roverini, *The Passion of the Christ* (2004) as Dismas, and *The King’s Musketeers* (2018) as Aramis. He has also directed and co-written several of his own films, including *Il viaggio della sposa* (1997) and *La terra* (2006).
