He is known for his portrayal of agent Lincoln Lee across multiple seasons of the series *Fringe* (2008), for which he was promoted to the main cast in the fourth season. Other television roles include Cotton Mather in *Salem* (2014–2017), Adrian Moore in *Nip/Tuck* (2003), and Liam Glasser in *The Rookie* (2018).

Gabel is a great-nephew of actor Martin Gabel and is married to actress Bryce Dallas Howard.
