## Biography

Shafiq Syed is an Indian actor. Born in Bengaluru in 1976, he grew up in the city's slums and ran away to Mumbai as a child. He was cast in the lead role of Krishna, also known as Chaipau, in Mira Nair's *Salaam Bombay!* (1988) after being discovered living on the streets near Churchgate station.

Syed won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance. He later appeared as Somra in *Patang* (1993). After his early film work, he returned to Bengaluru, where he has worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.
