## Biography

Shane Connaughton is an Irish writer and actor. Born on 4 April 1941 in Kingscourt, County Cavan, he grew up in the village of Redhills and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

He is best known as co-writer, with Jim Sheridan, of the screenplay for the 1989 film *My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown*, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also co-wrote the screenplays for the Academy Award-winning short *The Dollar Bottom* (1980) and the 1992 film *The Playboys*, and adapted his own novel *The Run of the Country* for the screen in 1995. His other credits include television work and the novels *A Border Station* (1989) and *The Run of the Country* (1991).

Connaughton has appeared as an actor in films and television series including *Coronation Street*, *Four Days in July* (1984) and *The Miracle* (1991). He won the Hennessy Award for New Irish Writing in 1985.
