## Biography

Shari Lewis (1933–1998) was an American ventriloquist, puppeteer, actress and writer. She created the sock puppet Lamb Chop, which first appeared on the children's programme *Captain Kangaroo* in 1956. She hosted several children's television series, including *The Shari Lewis Show* on NBC from 1960.

With her husband Jeremy Tarcher, Lewis co-wrote the *Star Trek* episode "The Lights of Zetar" (1969). She also appeared as an actress in episodes of *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* (1964) and *The Nanny* (1993), and performed additional voice work in animation. Lewis conducted major symphony orchestras and wrote more than sixty children's books.
