## Biography

Sheldon Keller (20 August 1923 – 1 September 2008) was an American screenwriter and composer. He attended the University of Illinois, where he began writing comedy, and later served in the US Army during the Second World War. After the war he moved to New York and began writing for television.

Keller wrote for Sid Caesar’s *Caesar’s Hour* (1954–1957) alongside Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart and others. He contributed episodes to *The Dick Van Dyke Show* (1961) and *M*A*S*H* (1972), including “For Want of a Boot” and “The Chosen People”. His film credits include the screenplay for *Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell* (1968) and *Cleopatra Jones* (1973). With Gelbart he co-wrote *Movie Movie* (1978), which won a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Written Directly for the Screen. He also wrote specials for performers including Frank Sinatra, Danny Kaye and Carol Channing, sharing a 1966 Emmy Award for *An Evening with Carol Channing*.
