## Biography

Sheridan Gibney was an American writer and producer for theatre, film and television. Born in New York City on 11 June 1903, he graduated from Amherst College in 1925 and later taught at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He began working in film in the early 1930s after a career as a playwright and literary critic.

Gibney wrote the screenplay for *I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang* (1932). He shared Academy Awards for best original story and best screenplay with Pierre Collings for *The Story of Louis Pasteur* (1936). Other credits include *Anthony Adverse* (1936), *Our Hearts Were Young and Gay* (1944, which he also produced) and *The Locket* (1946). He served twice as president of the Screen Writers Guild and contributed episodes to television series including *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* and *The Six Million Dollar Man*. Gibney died on 12 April 1988 in Missoula, Montana.
