## Biography

Shigeichi Nagano (1925–2019) was a Japanese photographer and cinematographer. Born in Ōita City, he studied economics at Keio University before entering photography. He worked for magazines including Weekly Sun News and contributed photographs to around fifty volumes of the Iwanami Shashin Bunko series before going freelance in 1954.

Nagano documented post-war Japan and Tokyo's salarymen during the period of rapid economic growth. In 1964 he served as one of the cinematographers on Kon Ichikawa's documentary film *Tokyo Olympiad* (1965). He subsequently worked in film and television, particularly on commercials. His street photography earned the Ina Nobuo Award in 1986, and a major retrospective was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in 2000.
