## Biography

Sid Watkins (1928–2012) was a British neurosurgeon and the medical delegate to Formula One from 1978 to 2004. He introduced on-site medical teams, rapid-response vehicles and other safety measures that substantially reduced fatalities in the sport.

Watkins appeared as himself in the documentary *Senna* (2010), providing interviews about his friendship with Ayrton Senna and his presence at the 1994 Imola crash. He is also credited in *1* (2013) and other motorsport documentaries. He was appointed OBE and wrote the memoir *Life at the Limit*.
