Sidney Buchman was an American screenwriter and film producer. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, on 27 March 1902, he graduated from Columbia University and worked briefly in the theatre before moving to Hollywood in 1931. He joined Columbia Pictures in the mid-1930s, where he wrote a series of successful comedies and dramas.

His credits include the screenplays for *Holiday* (1938), *Mr. Smith Goes to Washington* (1939), *Here Comes Mr. Jordan* (1941, for which he shared an Academy Award for Best Screenplay), *The Talk of the Town* (1942) and *Cleopatra* (1963). He also produced several films and served as president of the Screen Writers Guild from 1941 to 1942. Buchman died in Cannes, France, on 23 August 1975.
