## Biography

Sidney Hickox (also credited as Sid Hickox or Sid B. Hickox) was an American cinematographer. Born in New York City on 15 July 1895, he began his career as an assistant cameraman at Biograph Studios in Manhattan and became a director of photography in 1916. After serving as a photographer with the US Naval Air Service during the First World War, he moved to Hollywood and joined First National Pictures.

Hickox had a long association with Warner Bros. after the studio absorbed First National in the late 1920s. He worked on numerous feature films until the mid-1950s, including *To Have and Have Not* (1945), *The Big Sleep* (1946), *Dark Passage* (1947), *White Heat* (1949) and *Them!* (1954). He later contributed to television series such as *The Andy Griffith Show*.
