Sigmund Romberg was a Hungarian-born American composer. Born in Nagykanizsa, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary) on 29 July 1887, he studied engineering and composition in Vienna before moving to New York in 1909. He worked as a staff composer for the Shubert brothers and became known for his operettas.

His stage works include *Maytime* (1917), *Blossom Time* (1921), *The Student Prince* (1924), *The Desert Song* (1926) and *The New Moon* (1928). Romberg also composed film scores, including the music for *Foolish Wives* (1922). He died in New York on 9 November 1951.
