## Biography

Simon May is a British composer. Born in Devizes, he was educated at Dauntsey's School and was a choral scholar at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a degree in modern languages in 1965. He began his career as a pop singer-songwriter before moving into television music.

May is best known for composing the theme tune to the BBC soap opera *EastEnders*, first used in 1985 and subsequently revised, including a 2009 update. He has also written themes for other series including *Howards' Way* (1985–1990), *Eldorado* (1992–1993) and *Trainer*. His earlier credits include the score for the 1988 film *The Dawning*.
