## Biography

Simon Srebnik (also known as Szymon or Shimon Srebrnik) was a Polish Jewish Holocaust survivor. Born in Łódź in 1930, he was deported to the Chełmno extermination camp with his mother in 1943. Selected for forced labour disposing of victims' remains, he survived a mass execution attempt in January 1945 when a gunshot to the head failed to kill him.

After the war, Srebnik testified at the 1945 Polish trial of Chełmno personnel and later at the 1961 Eichmann trial in Jerusalem and the Chełmno trials in Germany. He settled in Israel, where he lived until his death in 2006. He is known for his interview in Claude Lanzmann's documentary *Shoah* (1985), in which he returned to the sites of his wartime experiences.
