## Biography

Siobhán McKenna was an Irish stage and screen actress. Born in Belfast, she grew up in Galway and County Monaghan, speaking fluent Irish. She made her professional stage debut in 1940 at the Gaelic-language theatre An Taibhdhearc in Galway and later became associated with the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.

Primarily known for her stage work, McKenna played Pegeen Mike in *The Playboy of the Western World* and the title role in George Bernard Shaw's *Saint Joan*. Her film roles include Mary in *King of Kings* (1961) and Anna in *Doctor Zhivago* (1965). She was married to actor Denis O'Dea from 1946 until his death in 1978.
