## Biography

Sōjirō Motoki (1914–1977) was a Japanese film producer, screenwriter and director. He produced several of Akira Kurosawa’s films, including *Seven Samurai* (1954), *Ikiru* (1952), *Throne of Blood* (1957), *Stray Dog* (1949) and *Drunken Angel* (1948).

In the late 1940s Motoki co-founded the short-lived independent production company the Motion Picture Art Association with Kurosawa and directors including Kajirō Yamamoto and Senkichi Taniguchi. The company produced films such as *Rashomon* (1950), *The Quiet Duel* (1949) and *Stray Dog* (1949). He also produced work for Mikio Naruse and wrote the story for *The Sands of Kurobe* (1968). Later he directed numerous films under pseudonyms including Takeo Takagi and Keiichi Kishimoto.
