## Biography

Sol Lesser was an American film producer. Born in Spokane, Washington, he entered the industry as an exhibitor and later moved into production, founding Principal Pictures and releasing films through United Artists.

He produced *Our Town* (1940), an adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s play. Lesser is best known for a series of Tarzan films made for RKO in the 1940s and 1950s, including *Tarzan Triumphs* (1943), *Tarzan and the Amazons* (1945), *Tarzan and the Huntress* (1947) and *Tarzan and the Mermaids* (1948). Other credits include *Stage Door Canteen* (1943) and *The Red House* (1947).

Lesser received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1961.
