## Biography

Sonam Phuntsok is a Tibetan actor and performing artist based in the exile community in India. He is known for portraying Reting Rinpoche in Martin Scorsese's *Kundun* (1997) and for his role as Penjor in *Dreaming Lhasa* (2005).

Phuntsok joined the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) as a boy and later worked there as an instructor. He has performed with TIPA in sixteen countries and toured the United States in 1991. In 1993 he received a Fulbright scholarship and studied stage production, lighting design and modern dance at Middlebury College in Vermont. He was born in India to mixed-race parents.
