## Biography

Sophie Darlington is a British wildlife cinematographer and director of photography. She left Ireland at the age of 19 and moved to Tanzania, where she trained as a filming apprentice with cinematographer Hugo van Lawick on the Serengeti plains.

Her credits include cinematography on the BBC series *Planet Earth II* (2016) and *Dynasties* (2018), director of photography on *Our Planet* (2019) and *A Perfect Planet* (2021) for Netflix and the BBC, and work on Disney Nature films including *Bears* (2014) and *Penguins* (2019). She was part of the core team that won the BAFTA for Photography Factual on *The Hunt* (2015). In 2025 she became the first dedicated wildlife cinematographer invited to join the American Society of Cinematographers.
