## Biography

Stan Daniels (1934–2007) was a Canadian-American screenwriter, producer and director. Born in Toronto, he studied at the University of Toronto and began doctoral work at Oxford University before entering television writing. His first credited television work was an episode of *The Dean Martin Show* in 1965, where he met his frequent writing partner Ed. Weinberger.

Daniels wrote for *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970) from 1973 to 1977 and served as a producer on the series. He co-created *Taxi* (1978) with James L. Brooks and David Davis, writing episodes and serving as executive producer. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1984 film *The Lonely Guy* and created the series *Roc* (1991). He won eight Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* and *Taxi*.
