## Biography

Stan Jolley was an American art director and production designer. Born Stanford Jolley Jr on 17 May 1926 in New York City, he was the son of character actor I. Stanford Jolley. After serving in the US Navy during the Second World War and graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in industrial design, he began his career as a set designer.

Jolley worked for seven years at Walt Disney Studios from 1953, contributing to film and television projects as well as the design of Disneyland attractions including the Golden Horseshoe saloon, Autopia and interiors of Sleeping Beauty Castle. He was art director on the Oscar-nominated short *Donald in Mathmagic Land* (1959). After leaving Disney he worked on numerous films and television series as art director and production designer.

His credits include production design on *Caddyshack* (1980), *Witness* (1985) – for which he received an Academy Award nomination – and *Dutch* (1991), and art direction on *Superman* (1978). He also served as production designer on the series *MacGyver*. Jolley died on 4 June 2012 in Rancho Mirage, California.
