## Biography

Stan Lathan is an American television and film director and producer. He began his career in public television in the late 1960s, directing programmes such as *Say Brother* and *Black Journal*, before moving into network television.

Lathan directed episodes of series including *Sanford & Son*, *Hill Street Blues* (1981), *Miami Vice* (1984) and *Remington Steele*. He directed the feature film *Beat Street* (1984) and partnered with Russell Simmons to create the HBO series *Def Comedy Jam*. He has directed numerous stand-up comedy specials for Dave Chappelle.

Lathan has received three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Tony Award and a Peabody Award.
