## Biography

Stanley Fields (born Walter L. Agnew) was an American actor. He appeared on Broadway in *Fifty Miles from Boston* (1908) and *The Red Widow* (1911), and performed in vaudeville with Frank Fay for eight years. His film career began with an uncredited role in *New York Nights* (1929); he signed a contract with Paramount Pictures in 1930.

Fields is known for supporting roles in numerous 1930s films, including Sam Vettori in *Little Caesar* (1931), Lon Yountis in *Cimarron* (1931), Capt. Davies in *Island of Lost Souls* (1932), William Muspratt in *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935), the sheriff in *Way Out West* (1937) and Carlos in *Algiers* (1938). He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles on 23 April 1941.
