We like his unforced comic presence, though the roles often ask him to bring along his stand-up persona rather than build someone unfamiliar. A local police officer visits in *Bugonia* (2025), and for a few minutes the dialogue stops sounding quite so rehearsed. Stavros Halkias plays Casey in the loosest comic scene in the film, a welcome interruption to the corporate phrases and conspiracy talk that Will Tracy's script keeps repeating. We laughed with relief at that visit, because nobody was making a speech. Halkias fits Yorgos Lanthimos's tightly controlled comedy without making the encounter feel stiff. It is the clearest reason we have to take him seriously as an actor. The move from stand-up into acting makes sense when the stand-up depends so heavily on crowd work. Listening and responding are useful habits for someone entering a scene already under way. *Tires* (2024), in which he plays Dave, gave him sustained television work; he also co-wrote and starred in *Let's Start a Cult* (2024). Those credits matter because they put more on him than the delivery of a few good lines. They do not, by themselves, show how far he can move beyond the foul-mouthed, likable losers he is often asked to play. *Tony* (2026) places him in the kitchen as a line cook called Stavros, with Matt Johnson directing and Dominic Sessa playing the young Anthony Bourdain.
