## Biography

Stephen Alpert (also credited as Steve Alpert) is an American actor and former senior executive at Studio Ghibli. He worked at the studio from the mid-1990s until around 2011, heading its international division and contributing to the English-language releases and overseas promotion of several films, including *Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind* (1984) and *Princess Mononoke* (1997).

Alpert voiced the character Castorp in the Japanese version of *The Wind Rises* (2013); the role and its design were modelled on him. He later published the memoir *Sharing a House with the Never-Ending Man: 15 Years at Studio Ghibli* in 2020 (originally issued in Japanese in 2015). He has additional producer and crew credits on Ghibli titles such as *Ponyo* (2008) and *Tales from Earthsea* (2006).
