## Biography

Stephen Macht is an American actor and director. Born in Philadelphia in 1942, he graduated from Dartmouth College, earned a master's degree from Tufts University and a PhD in dramatic literature from Indiana University, and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He taught at Smith College and was a tenured professor at Queens College before entering acting full time.

Macht was spotted by a Universal Studios talent scout while performing at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada in 1975. He is known for recurring roles as David Keeler on *Cagney & Lacey* (1985–1988), Professor Henry Gerard on *Suits* (2011), and appearances in *The Mentalist* (2008), *Castle* (2009), *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine* (1993) and *The Monster Squad* (1987). He directed one episode of *Cagney & Lacey* in 1988. He is the father of actor Gabriel Macht.
