## Biography

Stephen Whittaker (28 June 1947 – 7 February 2003) was a British actor and director who worked primarily in film and television. Born in London, he trained as an actor at the Corona Academy after attending Henley-in-Arden School in Warwickshire. He began acting in the mid-1960s, appearing in *To Sir, with Love* (1967) and the *Doctor Who* serial *The Web of Fear* (1968).

In 1985 he completed a director's training course and made his directing debut with the Channel 4 drama trilogy *What If It's Raining?* (1986), written by Anthony Minghella. He went on to direct episodes of *Agatha Christie's Poirot* (1992) and *Inspector Morse* (1993), as well as *Portrait of a Marriage* (1990), *Hearts and Minds* (1995) and *Closing Numbers* (1993).

His final project was the feature film *The Rocket Post* (2004), released posthumously with a dedication to his memory. He died in London following complications from surgery.
