## Biography

Steve Brodie (born John Daugherty Stephens; 21 November 1919 – 9 January 1992) was an American stage, film and television actor. He took his screen name in tribute to the 19th-century daredevil who claimed to have jumped from the Brooklyn Bridge. Raised in Kansas, he began his career in the mid-1940s after appearing in a Hollywood stage production.

Brodie appeared in dozens of films, mainly at MGM, RKO and Republic Pictures, often in westerns and B-movies. He played supporting roles in *Out of the Past* (1947), *Crossfire* (1947) and *The Caine Mutiny* (1954), and had a leading part in *Desperate* (1947). Later film credits include *Blue Hawaii* (1961).

From the mid-1950s he worked primarily in television, with guest appearances in series such as *Alfred Hitchcock Presents* and various western programmes.
