## Biography

Steve Shagan (1927–2015) was an American novelist, screenwriter and film producer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he began his career as a stagehand and publicist before producing episodes and films in the Tarzan series in the 1960s. He later concentrated on writing.

Shagan wrote the screenplay for *Save the Tiger* (1973), which he also co-produced; the film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and a Writers Guild of America Award. He received a second Oscar nomination for the adapted screenplay of *Voyage of the Damned* (1976). Other screenplays include *Hustle* (1975), *Nightwing* (1979), *The Formula* (1980), *The Sicilian* (1987) and *Primal Fear* (1996). He wrote the teleplay for the television film *Gotti* (1996), for which he received an Emmy nomination, and published eight novels.
