He was born on 10 November 1904 in Ungvár, Austria-Hungary (now Uzhhorod, Ukraine) and died on 26 December 1973 in Los Angeles, California. Geray trained at the University of Budapest and began his career on the stage at the Hungarian National Theater. He made his London stage debut in 1934 and appeared in English-speaking films from 1935, moving to Hollywood in 1941. He appeared in over 100 films and numerous television programmes. He is known for roles including Dr. Graff in *Spellbound* (1945), Uncle Pio in *Gilda* (1946), Paul in *In a Lonely Place* (1950), the captain of waiters in *All About Eve* (1950) and the hotel manager in *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes* (1953).
