## Biography

Stu Silver, also credited as Stewart Norton Silver, was an American writer, producer and actor. Born Stewart Norton Silver on 29 June 1947 in Los Angeles, he was adopted and raised in Rochester, New York. He began his career as an actor in New York theatre, appearing in the Broadway musical *Dance with Me*.

Silver wrote for the sitcom *Soap* (1978–1981) and created the series *Webster* (1983–1989) and *It's a Living* (1980–1989). He also wrote episodes of *Brothers* (1984–1985) and created *Good Grief* (1990–1991). His sole feature screenplay credit was for the 1987 comedy *Throw Momma from the Train*, directed by and starring Danny DeVito with Billy Crystal.

Silver received an Emmy nomination for *Soap* and won CableACE Awards for *Brothers* and *Comic Relief*, as well as a People’s Choice Award for *Webster*. He died on 18 July 2023 in Rochester, New York, aged 76.
