## Biography

Stuart Gillard is a Canadian film and television director, writer, producer and actor. Born in Coronation, Alberta, he studied at the University of Alberta and the National Theatre School of Canada before training further at the University of Washington. He began his career as an actor, winning the Canadian Film Award for Best Actor in 1975 for *Why Rock the Boat?*.

Gillard moved into directing and writing in the early 1980s. His feature credits include *Paradise* (1982), which he also wrote, *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III* (1993) and *RocketMan* (1997). He has directed numerous Disney Channel and ABC Family television films, among them *Twitches* (2005) and *Going to the Mat* (2004), for which he received a Directors Guild of America Award.

On television he has directed episodes of series including *Charmed* (1998), *One Tree Hill* (2003), *90210* (2008) and *Beauty and the Beast* (2012). He has also served as producer on several projects and co-created the series *All Souls* (2001).
