She first came to prominence with the lead role of Jasira in the 2007 film *Towelhead*, for which she received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. She portrayed Azula in *The Last Airbender* (2010) and appeared in *Crossing Over* (2009) and *Under the Silver Lake* (2018). On television, Bishil played Margo Hanson in the series *The Magicians* (2015–2020) and had earlier guest roles including in *90210* and *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit*.
