## Biography

Suso Cecchi d'Amico (1914–2010) was an Italian screenwriter. She contributed to the scripts of more than 100 films over a career spanning six decades and was among the first women to work in the profession in Italy. She helped pioneer the neorealist movement and collaborated with many leading post-war directors.

Born Giovanna Cecchi in Rome, she began screenwriting after the Second World War. Her credits include *Bicycle Thieves* (1948) for Vittorio De Sica, *Big Deal on Madonna Street* (1958) for Mario Monicelli, and a long series of films for Luchino Visconti, among them *Rocco and His Brothers* (1960) and *The Leopard* (1963). She also worked on *Roman Holiday* (1953) and *Jesus of Nazareth* (1977).

Cecchi d'Amico received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 1994 Venice Film Festival.
