## Biography

Suzanne Schiffman (née Klochendler) was a French screenwriter, assistant director and script supervisor. Born in Paris in 1929, she studied art history at the Sorbonne. She entered the film industry in the late 1950s as a continuity clerk, working first with Jacques Rivette on *Paris Belongs to Us* (1961) and then with Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut on numerous New Wave productions.

Schiffman collaborated closely with Truffaut on around twenty films, progressing from script supervisor to co-writer and assistant director. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for *Day for Night* (1973) and shared a César Award for the screenplay of *The Last Metro* (1980). She also worked with Rivette and Godard on multiple projects, and later directed *The Monk and the Sorceress* (1986). Schiffman died in Paris in 2001.
