T. J. English is an American author, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he moved to New York City in 1981, where he worked as a freelance journalist and taxi driver while beginning his writing career.

English is best known for his non-fiction books on organised crime, including *The Westies* (1990), *Born to Kill* (1995), *Paddy Whacked* (2005) and *The Savage City* (2011). He has also written for television, contributing story and teleplay credits to episodes of the series *NYPD Blue* (1993) and *Homicide: Life on the Street* (1993). He shared a Humanitas Prize for an episode of the latter.
