## Biography

Tadao Ikeda (1905–1964) was a Japanese screenwriter and film director. After graduating from Waseda University, he joined the Shochiku studio, where he wrote screenplays for directors including Yasujirō Ozu, Mikio Naruse, Kōzaburō Yoshimura and Yasujirō Shimazu. He also directed several films.

Ikeda contributed to numerous Ozu productions, including the screenplay for *A Story of Floating Weeds* (1934) and the original screenplay (uncredited) for its 1959 remake *Floating Weeds*. Other credits include adaptations and screenplays for *The Only Son* (1936), *There Was a Father* (1942) and *Record of a Tenement Gentleman* (1947).
