Born in Kobe, he studied at Kwansei Gakuin University and performed in a jazz band before leaving to join the Shintoho studio. He made his film debut in 1952 and appeared in more than 100 films. Takashima is best known for his roles in Toho kaiju productions, including Osamu Sakurai in *King Kong vs. Godzilla* (1962) and Dr. Tsunezo Kusumi in *Son of Godzilla* (1967). He also appeared in *Atragon* (1963), *Frankenstein Conquers the World* (1965) and *Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II* (1993).
