## Biography

Tambi Larsen (1914–2001) was a Danish art director and production designer. Born in Bangalore, India, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 20 and studied at the Yale Drama School. He married Barbara Dole in 1941 and became an American citizen in 1943.

During the Second World War he worked for the Office of War Information, broadcasting news in Danish and later designing exhibits in Denmark. After the war he moved to Hollywood and began working at Paramount Pictures as an assistant art director. His first credited film as art director was *The Secret of the Incas* (1953).

Larsen won an Academy Award for *The Rose Tattoo* (1955) and received further Oscar nominations for *Hud* (1963), *The Spy Who Came in from the Cold* (1965), *The Molly Maguires* (1970) and *Heaven's Gate* (1980). He also won a BAFTA award for *The Spy Who Came in from the Cold*. His other credits include *Thunderbolt and Lightfoot* (1974), *The Outlaw Josey Wales* (1976) and *The Message* (1976).
