## Biography

Ted Knight (born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka; 7 December 1923 – 26 August 1986) was an American actor. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the vain and inept television news anchor Ted Baxter on the sitcom *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970–1977). Knight received six Emmy Award nominations for the role, winning Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Comedy in 1973 and 1976.

He later starred as Henry Rush in the sitcom *Too Close for Comfort* (1980–1986) and appeared as Judge Elihu Smails in the film *Caddyshack* (1980). Knight had previously worked in voice roles for animated series and in numerous guest appearances on television programmes. In 1985 he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to television.
